The Music Farm is is owned and run by Tom Tyson, a Member of The British Academy of Composers and
Songwriters, who at the age of just 17, became a professional musician.
Less than two years later he was working as bass guitarist with The Freddie Starr Band. After a one year stint with the band and after many T.V. and recording sessions, Tom joined sixties singer songwriter Gene Pitney and was to tour the world as a member of his band. |
|
After several years touring, Tom decided to return to his native Cumbria and establish a recording studio. The result is the 'Music Farm', a professional 24 track studio in an idyllic two and a half acre setting overlooking the Lakeland fells. |

The Jade is the best analogue production console manufactured by Soundtracs Plc. The Jade is an In-Line console with very quiet, pad-less, full range, discrete Mic Amps and has 2 signal paths per module. There are 6 bands of EQ per module plus 8 aux sends to 12 aux busses, 2 stereo and 8 mono. This Jade is equipped with Assignable Dynamics, providing each channel with a very fast Noise Gate, Compressor limiter, Expander, Auto Pan, Triggered Pan and Side Chain Keying for De Essing
EQUALISATION
Each channel on the Jade is equipped with 6 bands of EQ. Parametric, there are 4 swept bands on the channel
with variable Q on the mid- sections. There are also fixed frequency High & Low shelving controls on the monitor
path with the ability to move the parametric mid sections from the channel signal path to the monitor path. A
lot of time was spent by the designers of Soundtracs to shape the EQ and make it the most musical and smoothest
EQ they ever produced.
Jade EQ has FDB Frequency Dependant Boost, this compensates for the deficiency in the human ear, the 4 band
parametric EQ gently increases its gain from 15db to 20db as the filter is swept to the extreme frequencies.
The result is a superior and more effective Equalisation at 20 HKz d 20 Hz
AUXILLARY BUSSES
Jade is equipped with 12 aux busses, each channel has 8 sends to the 12 busses, aux's 1&2 and 3&4 are
stereo busses, 5 - 12 are mono. If more than 12 aux busses are required during Re-Mix the 24 group busses can
be used as additional aux busses. On each channel there is the facility to take aux send pots 7&8 off the aux
busses and direct them to the sub group matrix allowing the groups to be used as aux busses.
METERING
Each channel has a high resolution 30 segment Bar Graph meter which can be selected to follow the
monitoring, showing group and tape levels to to show the channel input signal level. These meters can be
globally switched to VU or Peak There are also 2 large VU meters on the stereo master buss.
DYNAMICS
The Master Controller for the dynamics is also housed on the master module, allowing the dynamics of each
channel to be set up from the central position. The compressors comprise a very fast Noise Gate with Threshold,
depth attack and release controls. There are also variable Hysterisis facilities on the noise gates, copy and
settings storage facilities. The threshold, attack, release, hold, range and ratio controls are set below the
display which changes to the function as soon as the relevant controller is touched by the engineer.
The large control room was acoustically designed by 'Recording Architecture' of London and looks onto the spacious playing area, which has two isolation booths. The vocal booth has an idyllic view over the village of Wilton.
